Integrity as the guardian of scientific quality

Science thrives on trust – and trust requires integrity. But what does integrity actually mean in day-to-day research? And who is responsible for it? The panel discussion brings together three perspectives: the institutional, the journalistic and that of researchers in practice. Edwin Charles Constable, founding president of the new Swiss Centre for Scientific Integrity, sheds light on structures and responsibilities. Researcher Pamela Delgado speaks from the perspective of a researcher at the start of her academic career, where pressure and uncertainty are particularly high. Journalist Martin Amrein explores the role of the media as a watchdog – and its limitations. Together, they will discuss how integrity can be structurally embedded, practised individually and publicly demanded. Artificial intelligence and its implications for scientific quality and accountability will also be on the agenda.
